This policy explains what data the AutomaTag Android app (package com.fillobotto.mp3tagger) and this website process, why, and what choices you have. AutomaTag is developed by fillobotto ("we", "us").
1. Your music files stay on your device
AutomaTag reads and edits the tags of audio files stored on your device. Your audio files are never uploaded. To do its job the app needs storage access, which you grant through Android's permission dialogs and can revoke at any time in system settings.
2. Data sent to look up song information
When you search for a song's metadata, the app sends the minimum needed to find a match:
- Text search data: the existing title, artist and album tags, or the file name, are sent to third-party online music metadata services and to the AutomaTag server (automatag.com). Album covers are downloaded from the same services.
- Audio fingerprint (Pro feature): the app computes an acoustic fingerprint on your device and sends it, with the track duration, to the AutomaTag server to identify the song. The fingerprint is a compact numeric summary of the sound. The audio itself is not sent.
The app contacts these music metadata services directly from your device, so they receive your IP address together with the search data above. No account, advertising ID or app identifier is sent to them. They process these requests as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.
3. Diagnostics and analytics (Google Play version)
The Google Play version of the app uses these Google services:
- Firebase Analytics: anonymous usage events (for example which features are used) to improve the app. A random identifier generated when you install the app is attached to these events. It is not linked to your name, email or Google account.
- Firebase Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring: crash reports, device model, Android version and performance timings, so we can fix bugs.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging: to deliver optional notifications, such as the reminder when newly added songs miss tags or covers. You can turn these off in the app or in Android settings.
When an error occurs, the app may also send a short diagnostic log to the AutomaTag server. The log can contain technical details such as file names and folder paths of the songs involved. It is used only to investigate the problem.
4. Advertising
The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID and collect information about ad interactions. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice from the app. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Buying AutomaTag Pro removes ads.
5. Purchases
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see your payment details. The app receives a purchase confirmation from Google Play to unlock Pro features. The app also uses Google Play's in-app review and in-app update services.
6. Support requests
If you contact us from the app's feedback page, we receive the information you choose to send. This includes your message, the app version and the random app identifier described above, so we can help you.
7. This website
- The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and protect the site.
- Google Analytics is loaded only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner. It sets cookies to measure visits. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
- Your theme and language choices are stored in your browser only.
8. Legal bases and retention
We process data to provide the features you request (performance of a contract), to keep the app working and improve it (legitimate interest), and, for personalised ads and website analytics, on the basis of your consent. Diagnostic logs and lookup requests are kept only as long as needed for these purposes. Google services retain data according to their own settings and policies.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us through the Feedback page in the app and include your app identifier (shown in the app's settings). You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
10. Children
AutomaTag is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date above shows when it last changed.
